                       Paintings by Li Chunhua

Our selection of Chinese paintings is vast. We paint famous mountain
and hill sceneries, as well as familiar everyday things around us.
Every day we have the chance to come across melons, fruits and
vegetables, and we use ink and brush to make them come alive…...

“Ripened cherries”

Cherries are still life and little chicks are live animals. Together,
they are static and dynamic--a balance that is quite impressive.

“Is it sweet?”

A cherry fell to the ground. It caused the chick to become curious…...

Is this radish sweet?

Yes!

“Which one is the reddest?”

There are a lot of cherries in the basket. The chick thought, “Which
one is the reddest?”

A cup of tea to write a poem about Autumn.

这些蔬菜依然做主角, 而我, 也依然充当一位导演;

The vegetables are still the main characters. But I am the director
and must have the ability to direct in order to make the performance a
success.

“What does it taste like?”

The chrysanthemum and the chick are together. The chrysanthemum petals
fall to the ground. The chick was curious, thinking it would be
delicious, so it tried to taste it.

A pot of green tea to write about Spring and Autumn.

Beautiful purples and brilliant yellows.

(Based on Chinese idiom “Beautiful purples and brilliant reds”)he rhythm of Autumn.

红罗卜与蘑菇依然做主角, 而我, 只是一位导演;

Carrots and mushrooms are still the main characters, and I am the
director. For the best performance, you have to balance each other and
have synergy.

The tree is filled with fruit.

The rhythm of Autumn.

Carrots and mushrooms—all of these things are picturesque objects by
themselves. Carrots and mushrooms, each have their own distinctive
features and details…

Drawing carrots and mushrooms is very easy, but is not easy to draw well…...

这些蔬菜, 我们可能熟视无睹。 其实对于一位画家来说, 这样做是要后悔的;
We may turn a blind eye on these vegetables, but it would be
regrettable for an artist, I feel. You can draw anything, but it is
more important that you draw well. Drawing well is not as easy as it seems.

“Who says carrots are not red?”

Carrots are still life and the little chicks are live animals. Who is
the main protagonist between the carrots and the chicks?
